Problem Analysis:

• The number of the legal abortion is too low in the country
• So many illegal abortions are being done in our country that a significant number of them are unhygienic.
• Complications of the illegal abortion are very high.
• Most of the illegal abortions are done by the (un expert people) in the unsuitable places.
• There are a lots of religious, legal, and cultural barriers for the abortion in our country
• The high number of the unwanted pregnancies , which is more than 25% in our country.
• The population of our country is young and consequently causes the high number of unwanted pregnancies
• There are cultural poverty and economical problems.
• Low number of organizations work on the abortion theme (become of the existence of the cultural, political barriers)
• HIV prevalence is estimated to be low but increasing rate is high. However the real numbers are much more above the known case.
• 66% of cases are related to injection drug use.
• Public discussion of drug use and prostitution is taboo in Iran.
• Access to treatment is difficult in Iran. 
• Religious, cultural barriers for youth friendly SRHR services to youth 
• Prisoners and sex workers who traveling to neighboring countries for work can contribute to the prevalence when they re-enter to the Iranian society
• Fear is a factor for people not taking blood test.

Comparative Advantage:

• Good experiences on educational programs and also in training the trainers .
• Making appropriate relationship with people of the society .
• The association does not have governmental organizations’ limitations.
• Having relationship with people who are involved in governmental organizations .
• The association is well known among governmental and non-governmental organizations .
• Working as a member of IPPF has made FPA as a professional organization working on SRHR according to international standards.
• Considering the youth and also deprived groups in policy making, planning, implementing and also monitoring the projects.
• Being focused just on the SRHR issues.
• FPA is among the initiator organizations in some issues of SRHR.
• Volunteer body of the association assists the FPA to be able to operate in different parts of the country.
• The association cares on the international announcements and making use of them.
• Having innovation in different fields such as educational methods, planning and implementing the projects .

Goal: Recognition of a woman’s right to choose and have access to legal safe abortion, and a reduction in the incidence of unsafe abortion.

Strategic Direction: Promoting women health by advocating for the reduction the unsafe abortion.

Objective: To strengthen public and political commitment to the right to choose healthy life and to have access to legal safe abortion.

Activities:

• To strengthen partnership between FPA and at least 2 educational institutions and other organizations that work on the safe abortion.
•  To implement at least 1 qualitative survey about causes, complications of the preventing method of unwanted pregnancies and unsafe abortion.
• Lobbying and advocating with 20 influential people to have access to safe abortion .
• To inform at least 100 influential people about emergency contraception contraceptive methods, complications of unwanted pregnancies, unsafe abortion, sex responsibility and male participation.
• To increase awareness of at least 500 general people on unsafe abortion (50% of lack of information).
• To inform 4000 people about emergency contraceptive methods, complications of unwanted pregnancies and unsafe abortions through distribution booklets, pamphlets, posters and to hold seminars, sessions, to produce mass media programs, giving information by internet and counseling services, etc.
