Ms. Anjali Sen
Anjali brings with her a ‘never-say-die’ spirit with a deeply held value for people and their contributions. She is driven by the need to create an equitable world and is tenacious in pursuing her vision of creating spaces for peoples’ expressions of their rights and choices and enhancing their sense of well-being.
During a career spanning more than twenty five years in the Indian Civil Service, she held leadership positions and was instrumental in transforming organizations, such as the National Gallery of Modern Art, India, to become an institution of eminence. Subsequently, Anjali decided to follow her heart by taking up the challenging cause of advancing the Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) of the poorest, most vulnerable and marginalized in South Asia. Armed with extensive experience of working with large public systems, she has successfully managed transitions, both within the organization by undertaking organization development initiatives, as well as in the Member Associations (MAs) in the South Asia Region.
With IPPF since 2004, first as the Financial Controller and then appointed as the Regional Director of the South Asia Region from March 2009, she has constantly worked to build a culture of collaboration by upholding the dignity and respect of people. She endeavors to strengthen MAs in the region, to become more effective and responsive to the people that they are meant to serve.
Participating in various SRHR-related forums and networking with different agencies is her way of advancing the issues related to Health, Rights, Development and Sustainability. She believes in institutionalizing group-based consensual decision-making democratic processes of functioning within her office as well as in the MAs. And this is the path she has chosen to enable the MAs to become self-governed, self-managed and sustainable institutions that can contribute to the global SRHR movement.
